In today’s tough economic times, you don’t want to go spending money endlessly on nursing bras and essentials that may not fit you in a few month’s time. However, if you do plan to nurse your baby, you definitely need some nursing bras, camis and tops to get you by. You also need the proper fit and comfort level so that you don’t get infections such as mastitis. Bravado is an excellent brand to get you through the early weeks of your first nursing bra postpartum, as well as through the later months with some of their more stylish bras and tanks.
Your First Nursing Bra:
Bravado’s Original Nursing Bra has been a bestseller for years to moms around the world. This bra is super comfortable with a cotton/spandex blend fabric which will stretch and mold to your changing breast shape all day. This bra does not have any underwires and the fabric can stretch and contract without becoming too tight if your breast are engorged. You can even sleep in this bra with the T-shirt fit back and no hooks or closures. This bra will give you 24 hour comfort and support.
The Original Nursing bra is available in 4 band sizes and 3 cup sizes from a 32 B to 46G. Each size can fit up to 2 cup size variations and 3 band size variations, which makes it an excellent investment for your first month or two of nursing when your size is fluctuating by the minute and your risk of engorgement and mastitis is highest.
The Bravado Nursing Bra Tank:
Bravado’s Essential Nursing Bra tank is must-have to your maternity and nursing wardrobe. This extra long tank with a built in full nursing bra is long and stretchy enough to be worn for most of your pregnancy. The extra length is welcome postpartum for full belly coverage. This nursing tank has pretty ruching across the bust and gives an excellent fit and support and shaping of your bust. It’s stylish enough to wear alone or dress up with a jacket or blazer for going out or office wear. It’s also great as a layering item in colder weather.
Most women who buy one of these come back to buy more in other colors, so stock up! Many women wear one of these tanks nearly everyday of the week. The fabric is very durable and stretchy while retaining it’s shape after washing. Features in this bra tank include:
- A molded seamless bra, not just a shelf bra, that provides excellent support and shaping up now to an F/G cup. The sizing allows 2 cup size fluctuations as the fabric can stretch and contract while still offering excellent support. Many women wear this tank as an exercise bra as it does provide safe support.
- A bra lined with Bravado! CottonFlexTM fabric. This revolutionary double-sided fabric offers the comfort of cotton and the benefits of polyester/spandex. The result is 100% cotton against the skin giving comfort and breath ability, without sacrificing flexibility, support and shape.
- Beautiful, soft and strong cotton/spandex outer fabric that isn’t see-through even in white! In fact white is the best selling color year-round.
- Subtle nursing clips on each side that allow for full breastfeeding access.
- Thin and cushioned straps that are easy to adjust.
A beautiful and flattering shape that is fitted but not clingy, with a hip length that doesn’t ride up.
- Design elements such as a subtle front gathering and satin trim, making it a stylish and versatile wardrobe item must-have and excellent for layering or dressing up.
With all of these design elements and dual bra and tank benefits, The Essential Nursing Bra Tank is designed to really get you your money’s worth during pregnancy, nursing, and transition wardrobe occasions.

When you are pregnant, quality sleep becomes a top priority and can sometimes be challenging as your shape changes and your belly grows. Finding a comfortable pair of maternity pajamas can make it a little easier to sleep more comfortably at night. Here are a few tips when shopping for maternity sleepwear:

1) Buy a little big. Unlike regular clothes that look better fitted to your shape, you are better off getting pajamas that may be a little loose around the waist and loose around the belly as these are the areas that will continue to expand for nine months. 2) Look for soft fabrics that are machine washable. Cottons are always very comfortable. If you are buying online, check out the washing instructions part of the description or find out from the store if it is not shown on the site. You will be much more inclined to wear something you can wash and dry in your machine rather than something that needs hand washing due to a lot of fancy ribbons or embroidery. 3) Buy maternity pajamas with a lycra or spandex blend. Even 5% lycra can make a huge difference in the stretch of the fabric and you will need this stretch for maximum comfort and longer use as your pregnancy progresses. 4) Look for pajama bottoms that have an elastic band and fit under the belly. There is nothing more uncomfortable than anything constricting your belly when you try and sleep at night. Belly skin can become very sensitive in the later months of pregnancy as you approach your due date. Most women find they are most comfortable with an elastic belly waistband because it easily stretches to fit you and does not cause any friction to your skin. If an online photo does not show how the bottoms fit and the description does not say, email or call up the store and ask them. 5) If you plan to nurse, buy nursing pajamas with nursing access so you can also wear it after you have your baby. It is very hard to nurse in the dark of night when you are dead tired in a nightgown without nursing access and have a very hungry baby! 6) Once you find a pajama that fits and feels great, buy more in other colors if you like the style. Japanese Weekend has a great basic Cross Over Sleepwear Set that comes in ¾ sleeves or cap sleeves. This style comes in 5 different colors. Japanese Weekend also has a short sleeve nightgown in the style and color choices. After you have your baby, your maternity sleepwear can quickly become your daywear for the first month. Buy a few pairs in advance that you really like and would not mind greeting visitors in after you have your baby.

Shopping for bras is challenging enough, but when it comes to nursing bra shopping it can seem nearly impossible. There are so many variables to bra fitting when shopping for a nursing bra including whether or not you are still pregnant and then trying to guess what your size you will be after you deliver your baby and begin nursing. Whether or not you plan to nurse your baby full time also factors into your prospective nursing bra size. Also, every woman’s body reacts differently to nursing, some women may go up one cup size third trimester pregnancy when they begin nursing, others may increase as much as 2 cups sizes and still others maybe only a half cup size difference if any. Here are a few suggestions and recommendations in shopping for your nursing bras to try to make this task a little less daunting:

If you are expecting your first baby, it is hard to know what to expect with your future bra size when shopping for your nursing bra as you have no history to draw on. The best rule of thumb is to wait until as close to your due date as possible before buying a nursing bra so that you can best gage what your size will be. If you do plan to nurse, you can expect your milk to come in within 2-3 days after you deliver. When you milk does first come in, some women experience a huge temporary uptick in their cup size. However, once your hormones settle down and your milk supply adjusts to a more predictable demand, your size should settle down. You should expect some natural size fluctuation during the day and before and after nursing, so it is best to pick a comfortable stretchy bra which will accommodate these changes while providing the support that you need for heavier lactating breasts.

The second rule is to not buy too many bras until your size has settled down after the first few weeks. You will probably only need about 3-4 bras at most that you can wash and wear so you always have one on hand to accommodate those early weeks. My best advice is to find several styles you like, that are very stretchy and can accommodate several cup sizes to safely fit your fluctuating and uncertain size. The Bravado Original Nursing Bra is an excellent choice. This bra comes in 3 size categories and 4 band sizes to accommodate a range of cup and band sizes and stretches easily while offering good support. Since there are no hooks on the back and a stretchy wide T-back fit, you can even comfortably sleep in this bra if you choose. If you are larger busted, I do recommend buying sleep bras for evening and nighttime wear which will also fit a range of cup sizes. The Majamas Easy Bra is an good choice which comes Small to XXL and fits from a 32A to a 48G. This bra has no hooks in the back and is a simple pull down style for nursing. The Easy Bra now also comes in an Organic Cotton which is very comfortable fabric for sleeping and loungewear.

Once you have survived the early weeks of nursing and motherhood, you will probably want to find a bra that is flattering to wear under T-shirts and gives you a bit more support and shape. Melinda G has a number of bras to choose from that come in a range of sizes. Melinda’s G’s Tee Shirt Soft Cup Nursing Bra is a smooth cup wireless bra that gives a clean look you can wear under a tee shirt or tight fitting shirt. This bra also has support comparable to an underwire bra without the associated risk of mastitis from an underwire bra. The Tee Shirt Soft Cup bra also stretches to fit several cup and band sizes which makes it an excellent nursing bra.

If you are bigger busted and really need the support of an underwire bra, Melinda G’s T-shirt Underwire Nursing bra is a very good choice. Like the Tee shirt soft cup bra, this bra also provides a clean seamless and smooth look that can be worn under a tight fitting shirt while also giving your breast shape and definition without restrictions. This bra comes in sizes 34C to 38F and is cup and band size specific, so it is best to buy this bra after your milk supply has settled down and you are a more exact size. The hooks on the cups do allow you to adjust the size of the cups to smaller or larger for before and after nursing to help with that size variation and superior fit.

If you are looking to get back your pre-pregnancy figure and hit the gym, you will probably feel more comfortable in a nursing sports bra when exercising. Bella Materna offers a highly supportive and comfortable Nursing Sports Bra that stretches to accommodate up to 2 cup sizes for your normal size fluctuation. The quick drying Italian Lyca/Nylon fabric will not pill or fade or show sweat marks. This bra has a 4 hook closure on the back for maximum support and adjustable wide straps with clip nursing access. You will probably want to wear this bra even after your baby is weaned for its support, comfort and flattering uplifting design.

Once you find comfortable supportive nursing bras to accommodate your size variations and daily life routines, you will find your quality of life improves tremendously as you reclaim your body, your life and embark upon the joys of motherhood.

A Sleeping PillowComfort during pregnancy is something that is more valuable than anything for the health of you and your baby and the nighttime is often the time a mommy-to-be dreads because of the lack of comfort she feels as she tosses and turns. A new sleeping pillow might just be the thing you need to help you get that good nightâ??s sleep you deserve. You may want to try a long, body-size pillow or you may want to try a couple small bed-size pillows. Test out different pillows and different positions until you find the right one. Once you find it, you will be a happier mommy-to-be.A Refillable Water BottleStaying hydrated during pregnancy is one of the most important things you need to remember, but sometimes drinking your 8-10 glasses of water is hard to remember throughout the day. Invest in a refillable water bottle and keep it with you at all times. You could get either a pink or blue one and paint â??Itâ??s a boyâ? or â??Itâ??s a girlâ? then not only will you be able to remember to keep hydrated, but you can have a conversation starter as well.A Bella BandOne of the toughest things during pregnancy is finding clothes to fit. The Bella Band, a band of tight material worn around your underbelly, is a product that will help you fit into your clothes throughout your pregnancy. Wear the band with your unbuttoned pre-pregnancy pants in order to have an extra monthâ??s wear out of your pants. Or wear the band later in your pregnancy to hold up maternity pants that are still slightly big or to hide unwanted bulges from those awkward maternity pants. You can even wear the band after you have the baby to help you tighten and hide some of that unwanted belly fat. A Perfect Fit JeanThough the perfect fit jean might have a large price tag on it, you will find that a great pair of jeans is one of the best investments you can make while you are pregnant. Throughout your pregnancy, these will become your go-to jeans when you need comfortable maternity pants to wear as well as your go-to jeans when you need something to make you feel better about your pregnancy body.A New HandbagDuring your pregnancy, you might have those days when all you can think about is being pregnant, and while of course you will be excited about your bun-in-the-oven, sometimes you will want to forget about being pregnant woman and instead just be a woman. Buying a new handbag might just be what you need to remember what it is like to shop for things other than baby or maternity products. Besides, a new handbag will get use even after your pregnancy.

Finding the right pair of jeans is a common problem for most women, but if you’re pregnant too, then where do you begin to choose the right pair of maternity jeans?Denim is very flexible; it keeps you warm in the winter and keeps you cool in the Summer. A pair of maternity jeans is a maternity wardrobe staple that can be both casual and fit for dressier occasions. Denim also can provide a wide range of styles. If you enjoyed wearing low-rise jeans before you were pregnant, you’ll be pleased to know you can buy this type in maternity sizes as well.Unless you know the terms used by manufacturers, choosing a pair of maternity jeans can be overwhelming and confusing. They come in a large number of styles, shades and fits so it will be easy to find the best style for your body if you understand what to look for. A smart, good-fitting pair of maternity jeans can be worn right through your pregnancy to lots of occasions. whether you’re lunching with friends, having a trip out or simply going shopping, having a cool pair of maternity jeans to put on is an invaluable addition to your maternity wardrobe. While before your pregnancy you only needed to consider the shade of denim or the cut of the leg, when you’re pregnant your biggest decision you will make is what type of waistband to select. Most pregnant women choose between “under-bump” or “over-bump.”Under bump maternity jeans are designed with a flexible band along the front which sits comfortably under your tummy. The band provides an comfortable fit and ease of support throughout pregnancy and in the transition period after. If you wear a longer top that covers the band no one can tell they’re a pair of maternity jeans. So don’t be afraid to wear these for a long as you want – even after you’ve given birth.”Over Bump Jeans” are designed to fit around your entire growing waist and consist of a full elastic waistband so that the jeans grow with you. Some maternity jeans have a panel at the front made from soft and stretchy fabric and which expands to fit as your tummy grows. This type of jeans are very adaptable and you are usually able to wear them throughout the entire pregnancy, making this style the most flexible choice of jeans. If you are looking to add maternity trousers to your wardrobe then here are some further options. Side panels in jeans are a good choice for expecting mothers. They will fit when you grow sideways as well as at the front. These side panels are flexible and contain elastic so that they can expand with you as you grow. Many pregnant women, however, prefer the comfort of drawstring pants. These pants contain an elasticated back, but have a drawstring that can be tightened to fit the wearer properly. The drawstring can be a comfortable choice to last the entirety of the pregnancy as they can be slackened as the woman grows.

Summer is just around the corner which means that it’s not too early to find the perfect maternity swimsuit. Fortunately, maternity swimwear shopping does not have to be as daunting as it sounds with so many fun styles on the market today. You may even find maternity swimwear shopping a lot more fun and a good deal less frustrating than shopping for a suit pre-pregnancy because for once you don’t have to worry about a belly slimming style! The hard part is figuring out what style is best for your new body type. Here are a few suggestions to guide you in your selection based upon your top priorities in a maternity swimsuit:

Belly Coverage

The Tankini and Halterkini styles are all fun, flirty bikini skimming styles that usually allow a little bit of belly to peek without showing your whole basketball tummy to the world. These styles are easy to wear as they are 2 piece and allow modesty without being prudish. As the name implies the Tankini are typically tank style tops which are usually more supportive for more endowed women while the Halterkinis are behind the neck halter tie styles which can create a little more cleavage depending on the how low cut the style of the suit and the bust size of the woman wearing it.

Different Size on Top and Bottom

Since many stores and manufacturers do not sell separate sizes for top and bottoms, the adjustable tie bottoms can be made bigger or smaller to help with this dilemma. The Hipkini is another variation of the Tankini and Halterkini 2 piece styles and depending on the manufacturer can either implie a lower rise bikini bottom or an adjustable tie bikini bottom. If you need to make more or less room in the hip/thigh area the adjustable tie is very useful in getting the perfect fit and looks cute at the same time!

Hip and Bottom Coverage

The Babydoll style suit can come in both Tank and Halter styles is an excellent choice for a full coverage maternity swimsuit that looks flattering but not frumpy. This style suit usually comes with over the belly bottoms, so even if the top rides over the belly in the water, you are still fully covered. Prego Maternity currently makes a number of fun patterned Babydoll suits including an Aloho black and white pattern as well as solids. Another bonus of the Babydoll is that it offers superior bust support.

Strapless

The Prego Strapless Mini is a superb 2 piece mini with under the belly bikini bottoms. The mini top fully covers the tummy and hips and gives you a sleek elongated look, along with your baby bump of course. Prego’s lightly padded mini top provides surprising support for a strapless suit and fits securely across the bust like a tube. This suit also has a detachable halter string that gives a little extra assurance for swimmers, if desired. Prego makes the mini in a number of pretty patterns as well as solids.

Fashionable 1 Pieces

Yes, it is possible to wear a one piece maternity suit and look sexy! Maternal America’s 1 Piece Keyhole Swimsuit is an excellent style for all body types. This one piece has incredible lines that really flatter your figure with adjustable halter ties and peek-a-boo keyhole center. So while you are fully covered, you are far from prudish in this tastefully sexy suit. This season Maternal America is also offering the “Jasmine” 1 Piece Keyhole Suit in a zesty turquoise pattern which is perfect for any island or beach get away!

Maternity Bikinis

If less is more for you and you have the body to go with it, then by all means flaunt it! But, don’t even think about squeezing into your pre-pregnancy suit, because the fit is not the same when you are pregnant! Bellabumbum makes a glove-like colorful striped maternity bikini that is truly designed to fit your maternity shape for all trimesters. The Bellabumbum Bikini is a halter style top and comes in both mandarin and aqua stripes. The bottoms have a secure wide comfortable band with adjustable ties. Prego Maternity also makes a perfectly fitting Maternity Bikini with a keyhole halter style top and very elastic hip riding bikini bottoms. Prego’s Maternity Bikini comes in both solid black and brown.

So, whether your goal is to show more or show less, there is a maternity swimsuit style suit out there that is perfect for you!

Yoga Mama

Â

OK, I know some of us had dreams that when we were pregnant, we would spend the whole 9 months reclining (gracefully!) on the sofa while someone brought us bowls of ice-cream and chocolate biscuits, and massaged our very slightly swollen but still elegant-looking feet. And of course we would put on exactly the recommended amount of weight, and our belly would be perfectly shaped and cute. Sighâ?¦the reality can be just a little different.

Â

Remember that staying active and healthy during pregnancy has many benefits, and gentle exercise like pre-natal yoga is perfect. It seems yoga is an all-time favourite with the celebs, and most keep going right through pregnancy. Both Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry are reportedly including yoga in their pregnancy exercise routines. So what to wear? Your pre-pregnancy workout clothes may not fit for long, and you want to be comfortable, right? QueenBee has some great suggestions to help you look great while staying active.

Â

Try our super soft and stretchy twist tank top with flare leg cordsâ?¦youâ??ll love the comfy cotton knit foldover waist band. The tops come in two bright colours as well as black, and are also good with our funky grey stripe leggings. And to wear over your tank top you canâ??t go past one of our super soft French Terry Hoodies â?? itâ??s great for layering, comes in short or long sleeved versions, and a range of great pastel and dark colours. We love the French pink and baby green pastels, or you could go with the navy long-sleeved hoodie like Jessica Alba. Another fave is our long sleeve mini dot sweater; comfortable, stylish, and looks as good over jeans as it does over leggings. See how it looks on US actress Brooke Burke! This is a low v-neck, and our black tank top goes well underneath.hannah xxx

When you are pregnant, the whole notion of “does this outfit make me look fat” takes on a whole new meaning. Not only do we not want to look fat, we want to look beautifully pregnant without looking like we put on extra weight. We want curves to show in the right places, but we don’t want our bottom to look as big as our belly! More than ever, this is a time in a woman’s life where smart shopping is key to building a stylish, functional and flattering maternity wardrobe.
The average weight gain for a pregnant woman is between 25-35 pounds. This weight gain starts to occur in the middle of your first trimester, unless you have severe morning sickness, and continues to the day you have your baby. Not only are you putting on more weight overall, your weight gain might shift to new places on your body such as your arms, thighs and even feet! Nearly every pregnant woman finds their bust size increase by a cup during pregnancy and oftentimes more during nursing. Women who never gained weight in their bottom or hips suddenly find they have more to address than just an expanding belly. On the bright side, being pregnant can have some huge shopping perks, because now is the time you have the license to buy yourself a new wardrobe so why not have some fun with it!
If you want to find some great fashion that is comfortable and doesn’t break the bank, shop first for some good basic mix and match pieces. Here are a few tips to keep in mind in building your wardrobe:
- The sooner you start your maternity wardrobe, the more mileage you will get out of it and the more comfortable you will be in your clothes. Once you stop trying to squeeze into your seemingly shrinking regular clothes with increasingly tight waistbands, you will no longer feel bloated and overweight. Others will also recognize you are pregnant and stop worrying about your weight as well! Also, you are less likely to feel morning sickness from comfortably fitting maternity clothes.
- Remember that maternity sizes should be roughly equivalent to your normal, pre-pregnancy size. However make allowance for your weight gain. If you find that you are gaining at a quicker rate than average, you might find going up a size is more comfortable. Oftentimes overseas brands such as Ripe Maternity and Noppies Maternity will run slightly smaller than many American brands such as Japanese Weekend and Maternal America. If you are shopping online it is a good idea to check out the size chart and description to see if there is any note of the item running large or small. You can also call or email customer support on brand fitting information.
- When in doubt, always go up a size. Now is not the time for sizing vanity. You are pregnant and expected to gain weight and you will be much more comfortable in a size that fits you with room to grow. If you buy an item that barely fits you today with little room to grow, you will find yourself staring at it in your closet for the remainder of your pregnancy. Remember you will get bigger until the day you have your baby, you will not be going on a diet while you are pregnant! Look for comfortable elastic waistbands that have the same color waistband as the rest of the pant.
- Never buy a tight maternity or nursing bra or undergarments. Not only will a maternity or nursing bra be uncomfortable, if it is too tight it can also lead to clogged milk ducts and mastitis when you are nursing. Also, your breasts need to have room to grow even after delivery of your baby. Some women go up another cup size after their milk comes in.
- Invest in a good maternity jean. There are stylish and comfortable maternity jeans at every price point. If you do want to splurge a bit on one item, do it on a well fitting maternity jean, particularly if you are jeans person. Aside from sleepwear, this is one fashion item you will get the most mileage from, so it is worth it to spend a few extra dollars to find a pair that will last and stretch you through your pregnancy. Many maternity jeans, such as the Noppies 4 Pocket Jean, looks like a regular jean as it does not have an elastic maternity band and fits below the belly with an internal waist adjuster. This type of jean can also be worn as a transition jean after the baby.
- In cold weather dress in layers. Buy lighter weight clothing than you would usually wear as you will find your overall body temperature higher when you are pregnant. Even in the winter months, and particularly in places like an office space, an overdressed pregnant woman can easily overheat. By dressing in lighter layers you can shed or add clothing as needed.
- Don’t wear restrictive clothing, if you we must wear pantyhose, buy maternity pantyhose, such as Noppies Maternity Tights. Maternity pantyhose will allow belly support and allow for better circulation. Maternity leggings are a good non-restrictive and trendy option over pantyhose. Japanese Weekend, Maternal America and 1 in the Oven all make a high quality legging in a variety of styles and colors to choose from. Leggings look great under a maternity tunic, dress or skirt!
- When shopping, look for similar color families than can be easily mixed and matched and are layer friendly. Tanks and camis make an excellent first layer as they are comfortable and add a light layer of warmth. Also, camis and tanks can be worn alone in the warmer weather and many are made with support bras. There are also many transitional camis and tanks out there, such as Glamourmom’s maternity/nursing tank, that can be worn for maternity as well as for nursing after the baby is born.
- Look for transitional maternity tops and maternity dresses that can double as nursing tops and dresses which can be worn after the baby. There is now a wide variety of fashions available for transition wear. Japanese Weekend has an excellent selection of transition wear nursing tops including a very versatile office-friendly Cross Over Top Maternity/Nursing top. Majamas has a whole line of transition wear clothing including their super soft yoga pants that can be worn throughout pregnancy and beyond. The Maternal America Nursing Dress is a beautiful new dress by Maternal America which can be worn throughout your pregnancy and does not look like a nursing dress.
- Buy an all purpose black pant that is comfortable to wear. Black goes with everything and is slimming as well so don’t forget to stock this basic. Also, make sure you have some comfortable loungewear pants for the house. 1 in the Oven’s Super Soft Ruched Fold Over Pant and Corduroy Lounge Pants are stylish enough to wear outside the house. They are very comfortable that you want to live in them.
- Make sure you spice up your wardrobe with a few fun patterns and flirty dresses. Remember, you will be living in this clothing for at least 6 months. If you plan to get pregnant again in the future, you may be looking at the many of these same maternity clothes in your closet. Make sure you have some fun and mix in some fashion pieces that you will enjoy wearing. Solids are important for your wardrobe, but they can get boring pretty fast if that’s the only thing you are wearing everyday!
Shopping is supposed to be fun, not a chore. So, have some fun with the wide selection of maternity fashions out there. You have a whole new and evolving shape to dress, so try some new looks, show some cleavage, and have fun shopping!
